1) Modi magic - Modi and his aggressive speeches has always been the point of trust in people from 2014 elections. Some political experts even accept Modi is the most popular political leader in India. In addition to this he did back to back rallies in his constituency in UP, Varanasi, and got the tremendous responses from people, which confirmed BJP's victory in UP.
2) Poor opposition - The direct opposition Samajwadi Party was internally feud by their own family members which gave BJP a strong political issue to dominate SP. Moreover SP's alliance with congress did the rest as congress is already facing a falling image throughout the nation. The other opposition party Mayavati's BSP has also failed in doing social engineering.
3) Pro steps - Few pro steps taken by BJP government in past went absolutely in their favour. They used surgical strike effectively to nourish nationalist side of their party. Gas cylinder distribution despite the cooperation of state government and demonetisation, all boosted their image on being against rich and corrupt people.
4) Development agenda - A super development agenda which BJP government delivered in center was another reason for their victory in UP. Under Modi's government India's economy seems to be trending in right direction. Even after demonetisation Modi government managed to maintain good GDP rates.
5) Organisation - BJP managed their campaigning in very controlled and organised manner while SP and BSP were far away from BJP in organising their campaign. BJP organised 88 youth-centric, 77 women-centric, 200 OBC-centric, 18 Dalit-centric and 14 trader-centric events, and held numerous state, regional and sector-level meetings with booth workers. Party also created 4 Facebook pages and 6,608 Watsapp groups to reach to voters. The 'Mann ki baat' campaign started by BJP got 34 lakhs responses.
A good analysis of the UP Election
